Next to the course name or the assignment, there is a gear icon which opens up an additional menu of features,  including “Mandatory Lesson/Assignment”.


In this article, we will look at the “Mandatory Lesson” and “Mandatory Assignment” settings in different combinations:

Mandatory Lesson + Mandatory Assignment


If both the lesson and the assignment are mandatory, then to complete both the current lesson and access the next lesson, the student must complete all mandatory assignments in the lesson. If the assignment is not mandatory and not completed, the student can still complete the lesson.

Instructor´s Actions:

  • Review all mandatory assignments. If all assignments are accepted and no assignments are sent for revision, the "Complete Lesson" button will be activated at the end of the lesson.
  • If mandatory assignments are designed for auto-acceptance (no review is required for assignment to be considered accepted) or or automatic review, no action is required from the instructor.

Student´s Actions:

  • Complete all mandatory assignments in the lesson.
  • If assignments are accepted upon review by the instructor (not automatically), wait for all the assignments to be accepted.
  • Click the “Complete lesson” button.
  • A list of lessons opens up, and the next lesson is available to the student.

 

Optional Lesson + Mandatory Assignment


Unless the mandatory assignment is completed, the student does not have access to the next assignment, but the student has access to the next lesson. However, the student does not have access to the lesson that contains another mandatory assignment. This way, the student must complete the previous mandatory assignment to access the lesson.

 

Mandatory Lesson + Optional Assignment

Unless the mandatory lesson is completed, the student does not have access to the next lesson. Click the “Complete lesson” button is necessary to go to the next lesson. In this case, the student does not have to complete an optional assignment. 


Optional lesson + Optional Assignment

Next lesson and next assignment are available to the student even if the previous lesson/assignment is not complete.  If all lessons and assignments in the course are optional, the student has immediate access to all lessons and assignments.
